• Fude Japan eyeshadow Brush L, M and F(flat)

    Hi Everyone,

Today I want to inform you that

    I have new eyeshadow brushes L, M, and F(flat)

    I already have

    L , M and S

    https://store.fudejapan.com/collections/fude-japan-1

The new ones’ handles are different. The same type of hair : grey squirrel.

They are non-shinning as the current ones are.

It is the same type of handle as the SUQQU brush.

As you know, SUQQU discontinued grey squirrel brushes and switched to synthetic.

I still have SUQQU brushes that I had bought.

I have my Fude Japan brushes.

    And I have new ones.

    The differences are not big.

You can choose brushes among those.

I look forward to receiving your feedback!

F (flat type) is the only one kind.

    All brushes are 5000 yen.

    Thank you for reading!

  • Dolce & Gabbana, Laduree, Anna Sui

    Hi Everyone,

I went to a supermarket to buy Amazake. This is a sweets section.

It is amazing that people outside Japan know a lot about Japanese sweets)

Dolce & Gabbana (D&G) has a Iicense contract with Shiseido, and is selling makeup in Japan,  but Shiseido will end the contract at the end of 2021.

Some shops will close at the year end while some continue to sell.

They seem to have 2022 January products.
Please see the picture on the left.

Kose will also end a contract with

    Laduree

    Anna Sui

I received several questions about Laduree.

They will keep selling products till the stock is 0.
They will not have new products, and they have stopped the production.

    I talked to Isetan Laduree,

    Rose blush is only available

    01

    04

I imagine some shops will have the stock for a while.

    Thank you for reading!

  • Hakuhodo G5529 and Kokutan eyeshadow T

    Hi Everyone,

Hakuhodo has been increasing the number of brushes with synthetic.

    Today,

    I was informed that

G5529 L grey squirrel is discontinued. M is still available.

G5529 grey squirrel will be discontinued and a new G5529 mixed with synthetic will replace it.

Kokutan eyeshadow T, grey squirrel, will be replaced by squirrel/synthetic mixed.

I don’t have G5529 L but I have several of the current Kokutan T with grey squirrel.

Please let me know or order online.

  • Chanel Holiday Collection

    Hi Everyone,

I called Chanel for several questions today.

    I wanted to ask if

    Cambon Pressed Powder was available.

    https://store.fudejapan.com/products/cn-lc?_pos=1&_psq=chanel%20pow&_ss=e&_v=1.0

I sold all of my stock, and I wondered if it was still available.

    It is still available.

Maybe it is because the Cambon powder is limited to stores (four in Tokyo) outside department stores.

Each department store has a customer program which awards long term clients. These four stores are not department stores.

It is being sold at Ginza Six, where I rarely go and buy products.

Unlike other shops, LOL, this Chanel shop or a particular person I talk to has been very friendly so I asked a frank question in a friendly manner.

‘Why are Chanel sales people so arrogant? Well, ‘arrogant’ may be too strong, so I rephrased it as ‘unfriendly.’

This impression has been shared by several makeup shops as I sometimes ask which shops they like.

They buy Chanel products on holidays and don’t speak highly of Chanel.

Anyway, when I receive orders for Chanel, I begin to think which store I should talk to. That is not my usual process.

Shibuya Chanel (3 in Shibuya) are not my favorites so I call other shops, which means I cannot take pictures so I cannot show them to my clients.

This person from Ginza Six understood and agreed to my opinion vaguely.

    Chanel sales are ‘unfriendly.’

Though she said that the unfriendliness was not a company policy(LOL), she agreed slightly that it existed. But, now, I have one shop I can talk too.

    Good news.

    By the way,

The only shop competing with Chanel for ‘unfriendliness’ is Elegance)

    About Chanel,

She  asked me to introduce Holiday Collections.

  • Hakuhodo new kokutan : Kokutan eyeshadow GS (grey squirrel/synthetic)

    Hi Everyone,

This is a new kokutan eyeshadow brush.

It was sold at events in Singapore , but not at any other shops.

    It is called

    [Kokutan Eyeshadow brush GS]

    5040 yen

It is grey squirrel mixed with synthetic.

The hair shape is similar to that of B004.

    From the top,

    Kokutan eyeshadow SG (goat/synthetic)

    Kokutan SC (tamage)

    B004G (goat)

Kokutan eyeshadow GS (grey squirrel/synthetic) > new one

    Kokutan eyeshadow ML (grey squirrel/synthetic)

    Kokutan eyeshadow MLL (grey squirrel)

Kokutan eyeshadow GS (grey squirrel/synthetic) > new one

I thought it was 100% grey squirrel but it is mixed with synthetic, I was informed by Hakuhodo today.

I know most of you like 100% natural hair.

Hakuhodo told me that this shape is difficult to make with 100% squirrel because it is too soft.

    Thank you for reading,

Please see the swatches of SUQQU signature eyes.

  • SUQQU Brush update

    Hi Everyone,

We have a new prime minister.

    His name is Kishida.

He spent some years in NY when he was a boy so maybe an English speaker.

I did not have an opinion about him till I found we had something in common.

We like the same baseball team.

    ‘Hiroshima Carp’

Maybe we go to a game together when the Carp visits Tokyo, LOL.

Hiroshima being the smallest baseball city in Japan, people in the city are really into the game.

The morning starts in Hiroshima, with a conversation.

‘Carp lost again last night, too bad!’

‘Well, they are weak, aren’t they ?’

A sales person for Houkodou writes a note when I send an order.

‘I look forward to young Carp’

    ‘Maybe next year’

    Yes.

    It is always ‘next year’

Next year turns into 25 years.

They win once per 25 years.

  • New brand – SNIDEL

    (The picture is Amplitude)

    Hi Everyone,

I received several orders for a brand called ‘SNIDEL.’ (All capital letters)

    https://snidelbeauty.com

It is a new brand (March 2020).

SNIDEL belongs to the same group as Celvoke does.

To/one is one of the group companies.

    https://toonecosmetics.com

SNIDEL emphasizes the merit of using natural ingredients.

The concept has been carried by THREE as well.

In that skin friendly market , it seems that THREE, SNIDEL and Celvoke compete with each other.

    Today,

    I bought the eye & cheek EX01

    6960 yen

    ( the first picture below)
(the second one has SNIDEL eyeshadow palettes)

I bought the first one from Hankyu Department store, the biggest department store in Osaka.

They told me that they have a shop in Shibuya.

So I visited SNIDEL in Shibuya.

The shop is located on the first floor near the entrance.

    Very good location.

I found that the manager was a previous Celvoke manager that I knew, so it was quite easy to ask her questions.

By the way, I asked those sales people where they are from.

Many are from local cities, which I can ask many questions.

99% of the time, they tell me lots of local things.

You know I cannot ask makeup questions LOL. So I need to find a way to make them relaxed.

At first, it was a torture to visit makeup shops but now …..

    Getting fun!

    SUQQU update

I told you that SUQQU brushes would be discontinued.

I chatted with Lunasol today, and they will replace the current animal hair by synthetic.

I believe RMK will do the same – RMK, Lunasol and SUQQU are the same group – Kanebo.

Please let me know if you are interested.

SUQQU eyeshadow F brush is sold out but the others are still available.

    Thank you for reading!

This is Eye & Cheek ex01.

  • Why is this brush so expensive ?

    Hi Everyone,

It was a three day weekend, and people had three-day off till Monday.

Kumano had a brush festival, not the same as usual. The festival was online.

Maybe some of you bought brushes online.

I was asked by a client of mine why this brush in the picture was so expensive.

It was 400,000 yen or 4000 USD.

It is made with a Yakusugi handle and hair of horse (or deer they say) .

The hair cannot be imported now due to the restriction by the Washington Treaty.

Maybe that is one reason, but doesn’t explain why it is 4000USD …..

    So I googled it.

The company is called Bunkodo, which seems to focus more on calligraphy brushes, and sells makeup brushes made by another Kumano brush company.

Bunkodo has a history of more than 100 years.

This is a picture around 1910, so right before the World War I. They were making brushes in the picture.

The era is called ‘Meiji,’ after the Tokugawa era, Samurai.

By the way, I had a colleague whose name was ‘Tokugawa.’

I asked Tokugawa-san, ‘Is your ancestor a sumurai shogun?’

He said he chose Tokugawa. Well, I cannot choose it….

    Then, he explained.

He was a Malaysian and became a Japanese citizen.

And he said that the Tokugawa name was ‘cool.’ And he chose it.

I was not able to recognize him as non- Japanese because his Japanese was impeccable.

    Back to brushes,

I will do more research and write about Kumano.

    Thank you for reading!

  • Do you understand Russell Crowe’s English ?

    https://store.fudejapan.com/products/takeda-fan-brush?_pos=1&_sid=47d266db5&_ss=r

This picture is Takeda Fox fan brush.

    Hi Everyone,

In the last blog, I talked about pine squirrel being very soft.
    https://atomic-temporary-81665234.wpcomstaging.com/2021/09/07/what-is-the-first-eyeshadow-brush-to-buy-from-hakuhodo/

I received feedback that Takeda pine squirrel is soft.

Hakuhodo usually mixes pine squirrel with other squirrels. e.g. North American squirrel.

Takeda makes pure pine squirrel brushes.
    https://store.fudejapan.com/search?q=takeda+epsqu&options%5Bprefix%5D=last

I wonder how different they are.
    ——-

I wrote that Russell Crowe’s English was hard for me to catch.
    https://atomic-temporary-81665234.wpcomstaging.com/2021/09/08/why-do-i-watch-netflix/

First, I watched a movie, ‘Allied.’

Brad Pitt was there, and its ending was sad,
So I tried to make sure that they were happy in real life, LOL.
It helps me to recover from sadness.

Marion Cotillard, a French actress, was with Brad Pitt.
I did not know her, but I have seen her somewhere.
    So I googled it.

I found  her in a movie,
    ‘A Good Year.’

And she was with Russell Crowe,

I have seen that movie somewhere long time ago.

Back then, I rented a movie, so I needed to return a video or DVD in a few days.
So it was a quick watch.

While I understood Marion’s ‘French English,’ Russell Crowe’s English was hard.
My English sadly hasn’t improved much, and I still had a problem.

I know many of you speak English as a native language or good English even as a second language.

(Well, Japanese are notorious for being not good at English)

Is his English Australian or New Zealand or British ?

We are educated by American accents here in Japan, and it is quite interesting to find those differences.

In ‘A Good Year,’ Russell, a young Investment banker in London, found a different himself at Provence, France.

If it is in Japan, a hard working business person in Tokyo moves to Okinawa to enjoy life.

Born and raised in a local town in Hiroshima, I don’t necessarily agree to all facets of this idea, but I understand.

    Marion Cotillard was good, too.

Totally irrelevant (LOL), but there is one person, a makeup shop salesperson, that looks like Marion, except that her eyes are not blue.

She works for a Japanese brand that I regularly go to.

Other brands people talk about her being the most attractive lady in that floor.

Many customers come to see her for makeup consultation, I can tell.

And I also know that one attractive male gets many customer visits in a different floor.

    Both have fans.

    But,
There are different motivations and it is interesting to watch them.

It is my humble hobby, really.

I find it quite amusing to do people watching at makeup counters.

And I ask sales person what they think of other brands.

That may be another blog topic.

    Thank you for reading!

  • #SUQQU 2021 SS Pure Blush 124125

    Hi Everyone,

In Japan, there will be a new Prime Minister in October.

    There are 4 candidates:

    2women

    2 men

I hope Japan will have  the first female Prime Minister, which many people look forward to.

    We will see.

Speaking of Prime Minister, I liked ‘Love Actually’ Hugh Grant as Prime Minister.

I like his humor, whether it is his own or not. Not straightforward, but subtle. Japanese joke is like that.

There was a conversation in the movie ‘Notting Hill,’ between Hugh and hotel man.

Hugh wanted to explain how stupid his flatmate was.

    Hugh

‘Imagine, if you will, the stupidest person you’ve ever met. Are you doing that’

    Hotel man

‘Yes, sir, I have him in mind mind.’

    Hugh

    ‘And now double it.’

‘That is the…what I can say, the git that I am living with.’

This is a type of humor I like especially when he says, with a serious face.

    ——

    By the way,

Do you know Hakuhodo doesn’t have ‘saikoho’ goat now?

    They used to have it.

The shop manager explained to me, why.

Hair provided to Hakuhodo didn’t meet the standard of Hakuhodo to be saikoho.

It differs from company to company. Some companies have more relaxed standard, I guess.

At that time, Hakuhodo stopped dying hair, which makes hair softer.

No saikoho after that, but there is no dyed hair.

Maybe some of you have saikoho that Hakuhodo made.

There was a number beginning with SJ as well as S.

    ——

Generally the quality of saikoho goes down in almost all companies.

I think Koyomo has plenty of stock whose standard has been the same.

    Thank you for reading!

    (the picture shows koyomo brushes)

    Hi Everyone,

    The other day,

    I talked about matchmaking.

Some people asked me to talk more.

Not in general but more personal experiences.
    I will write more today.

    ————–

I worked for Canon, a Japanese company, and after Canon, I worked for foreign companies.

Naturally,  I got connected with people who worked for foreign companies.

There was one guy who worked for a Swedish mobile company.

He was 35 years old, from a good university, an English speaker.

He was earning a little more than 100,000 USD.

He has already begun real estate investment. Maybe Robert Kiyosaki influence, LOL.

I arranged a party, which  I invited him to.

    As an arranger,

What I need is someone who can entertain other people.

Funny and intelligent person who can take care of many kinds of people.

    Some people are shy.
So I need to pay more attention to those people and make sure to have them socialize.

It is my role but I cannot take care of everyone.
I need some more people who can make people laugh.

This guy was funny and intelligent.

Besides, he was able to entertain people around him, and I really appreciated it.

At the end of the party, I asked him, ‘have you met anyone interesting?’

He said, ‘no one’ ‘but, thank you, I enjoyed the party!’

    That is ok.

Maybe he exchanged an address for Facebook, Instagram or LINE.

    This is the SNS era.

It is not my place to push. I am not a marriage adviser.

What I liked about him was to try to amuse other people even though he was not interested (he said).

    I mean,

Some people know how much time I spend on arranging an event and inviting interesting people.

    For free,  LOL.

One guy told me, ‘the party was not fun, and I was not interested in anyone ‘

At least I wanted to hear ‘thank you, Fukuma-san, for your time.’

He said he would like to come to another event, but I did not invite him to any of them since then.

Maybe that is something he or she could show.

    “Gratitude”

It may not matter much how good looking or intelligent he or she is, if he or says to me, ‘thank you for the party!’

    By the way,

I saw a guy and girl exchanging LINE address.

I asked her if she was comfortable with giving him personal information.

She said, ‘It is ok. I will delete it after I go home.’

I leaned  it is how SNS works in this century, LOL.

  • I did not like JR when I was a kid

(The picture is a brush from Kumano)

    Hi Everyone,

    Today,

I went to a local government office to get an individual number.

It is almost the same as Social Security Number.

The country manages tax payments while we can use it as an ID to get public paper. Good for both, but it benefits the country more.

It is a picture ID so it will function like a driver’s license.  That is good.

One thing that impressed me was the government office treated me very well.

I felt like a being a guest to The Ritz-Carlton except that they didn’t serve afternoon tea.  They treated me better than some makeup shops, LOL.

Long time ago, JR (Japan Railway) and Japan Post were nationalized.

    Now they are privatized.

When JR was nationalized, I felt that I begged them to sell me a ticket.

They did not have the concept of ‘providing good service to a customer. ‘

When I was a kid, I was playing with a cigarette case that a passenger left. It was at a JR train in Hiroshima.

It was a small box, and I was throwing like a juggler.  There were very few people on the train.

All of a sudden, an old guy came to me and, without saying anything, he crushed a box and gave it back to me.

He did not say anything, so

I did not understand what happened.
Later, I realized that he thought I was smoking. That is all I can think of.

The incident badly damaged my feeling, and I can remember the scene clearly. Even now.

He wouldn’t have done if I had been an adult. I was a small boy, knowing nothing. At least he could have asked, ‘you don’t smoke, do you?’

I had plenty of good memories from the time I was a boy, but from time to time, this scene comes back to me.

Especially when I took a train in Hiroshima.

It was around 6PM near the Hiroshima station.

    ———

I have just remembered one story.

Tommy Lasorda, a great baseball manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

He was a pitcher when he played baseball himself.

He pitched to a veteran hitter, with no reason, Lasorda hit the guy by a pitch.

That guy asked Lasorda, ‘I did not do anything bad to you, why did you hit me?’

    Lasorda said,

‘You did not sign a autograph when I asked you long time ago’

Memory when you are a child never goes away, doesn’t it?

    Thank you for reading!

  • I was an accountant before selling brushes

    #laduree

    Hi Everyone,

    I watched a movie called

    ‘The Accountant’

Ben Affleck, working as an accountant, has a very different face.

    In Japan, it is called

    ‘Consultant’

I guess  an English word ‘accountant’ may not be familiar to many Japanese.

The accountant in the movie is a genius in numbers.

I am also an accountant, and have dealt with many auditors.

I still remember one of them had super memory and remembered all the balance sheet numbers with more 10 digits. He wrote down all to a whiteboard in front of me.

He was in his early thirties with a nice personality.

(Maybe too quiet to socialize with others, but I liked it )

He asked me to be a matchmaker surprisingly , and I began my second career.

    Joking aside,

    I really enjoyed matchmaking.

Those I invited  preferred a party or dinner style to one on one meeting, so I arranged quite a few gatherings.

My batting ratio was not as high as Ichiro (a baseball guy )so I have only one success.

They got married and have a daughter now.

It took me time to arrange one gathering but people thanked me, which really motivated me to do.

Gratitude is always a great motivator.

As I worked for foreign companies and knew a good number of people, the gatherings were diverse from Japanese to foreigners, from 20’s to 40’s, very Japanese people  to atypical Japanese people LOL.

I found it difficult to find ‘eligible’ guys in the 30’s.

Maybe, there are many good guys in Japan, but they are not ‘available  on the market.’ They are reluctant to meet new people while girls are more proactive on the market.

Hence, my resources got scarce, and I gave up on match-making after one year.

I mean I should have made money, LOL. That would have been different.
I needed to spend huge amount of time.

Good thing was that I tried to get acquainted with new people and I needed to deal with different types of people, whether I like or not.

It is a good brain exercise, actually.

Maybe I should do after COVID as my hobby. I will think about it.
Now I know many sales people, mostly women,  at makeup counters. Some of them actually asked me to introduce them to foreign guys, but my resources are VERY limited now, LOL.

And that auditor, he did not succeed  at my gatherings, but got married somewhere else, I heard.

    Thank you for reading !

    Hi Everyone,

    #hakuhodo at #mitsukoshi
    #hakuhodo #mitsukoshi

Nowadays in Japan, like the rest of the world, movies can be watched at Netflix, Amazon, Hulu…

I watch them on the train.

I used to go home by Shinkansen (super express) from Tokyo to Hiroshima.

    It takes about five hours.

I buy a lunch box at Tokyo Station, a cup of coffee inside the train and listen to music.

I get happy with eating lunch, drinking coffee and listening.

I can enjoy them……….. till Kyoto or Osaka.

On arriving at Kobe, three hours from Tokyo, I am always aware that boredom reaches to the max.

I get full with food, coffee and music.

I cannot sleep on the train well, so I begin to think a lot.

Many of them are useless, LOL.

After Okayama, I finally see my destination – Hiroshima.

My happiness reaches the max as I get relieved that I can get out of a train.

Now with Netflix or baseball on the computer,

I can easily spend those five hours, watching them.

I watch movies at gym, running and walking. I give myself an excuse why I watch movies – it is for my English study. So I don’t watch Japanese movies.

I get happy when I understand English of persons in a movie while some are really hard to understand.

The other day, I ran into an actor whose English was extremely difficult to understand.

    His name is Russell Crowe.

I will talk about him next time.
